Why Byzantine Catholic?

Why Byzantine Catholic?

One Catholic faith, expressed through the spiritual heritage of the Christian East.

Why Byzantine Catholic?

Christianity is a faith rich in history, spirituality, theology, and liturgical traditions. From its earliest centuries, the Christian Church developed different ways of expressing and celebrating the same apostolic faith. Among these is the Byzantine Catholic tradition, rooted in the Christian East and enriched by centuries of prayer and theological reflection.

Catholic in Faith, Byzantine in Tradition

To be Byzantine Catholic means to belong fully to the Catholic Church while preserving the liturgical, theological, and spiritual heritage of Eastern Christianity. Byzantine Catholics are in full communion with the Bishop of Rome, the Pope, and celebrate the Divine Liturgy according to the Byzantine tradition. This is not a different Catholic faith, but an authentic expression of the same apostolic faith.

A Living Tradition

The Byzantine tradition is more than a form of worship. It is a way of living the Christian faith through Scripture, prayer, the Divine Liturgy, icons, hymnography, fasting, and the sacramental life of the Church. Theology and prayer are inseparable: what the Church believes is expressed in what the Church prays.

Our Romanian Greek-Catholic Heritage

Our mission is especially connected to the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church, whose history reflects centuries of faith, perseverance, sacrifice, and communion with the universal Catholic Church. Rooted in the Byzantine tradition and shaped by the heritage of Romania, particularly Transylvania, this Church preserved its identity through freedom and persecution. Our Faith Is Our Life.

Our Mission

Through Why Byzantine Catholic?, we hope to introduce the beauty and richness of Eastern Catholic Christianity to anyone interested in discovering this ancient Christian tradition. The Transfiguration Mission, rooted in the Romanian Byzantine Catholic tradition, seeks to bring Christians and non-Christians closer to God through prayer, Scripture, reflection, and community.

Come and See

In the Gospel of John, when the first disciples asked Jesus where He was staying, He answered: “Come and see” (John 1:39). Whether you are Catholic, Orthodox, from another Christian community, or simply searching for God, we invite you to explore, ask questions, and discover the spiritual treasures of Byzantine Catholic Christianity. Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
